President's Notes

Hello Friendship Force Dallas,

The big news is that the Australia/US inbound exchange is September 23-30.  I hope many of you will participate in the exchange activities. I know Pat Andeweg is still looking for small dinner hosts and Martha Durst is wanting more day hosts. If you can help with either of these, please contact Pat or Martha. Any FF Dallas member can come to any activity. Please see and send in the Reservation Form and a check if needed to Mary Latham to register for these activities. There will be no meeting in September as the exchange activities take the place of a meeting. I know that Sandy Kaiser has planned a great welcome dinner at Betty Mayeur's home for Sept 23. This is a good way to meet our Aussie and US guests.

In October, we will have a presentation from Sandy Kaiser recalling Sandy and Roger Kaiser's Friendship Force exchange on the Amazon River. This should be really interesting. Friendship Force is putting together more of these discovery/active exchanges. If you are not getting a catalog of exchanges seeking more ambassadors from FFInternational, be sure to send International your email address (through the website) and check out the opportunities.

Congratulations to Isabella Iverson who will be FFDallas' official representative to the FF World Conference in Auckland New Zealand in October.

Speaking of special exchanges, Dale and Hilda Klosterman, edward perez and I are going to Jamaica in November to start a seed nursery for children's vegetable gardens which will be dedicated to Friendship Force. Members from all over the US and Canada will be helping with this project. I am sure we will be presenting a report on what we did. Probably there will be further projects of this kind, so keep checking www.friendshipforce.org

Hope to see you during the September 23-30 exchange.

In friendship,

Paula

Exchanges

Completed Outbound Exchange to Columbia Cascade and Olympia Clubs
– July/Aug 2014
From Patty Neimeyer, ED

Nineteen Ambassadors had a wonderful, memorable Exchange July 23-August 4, hosted by Columbia Cascade FF club of Portland/Vancouver, WA and by the Olympia Club of Washington on Puget Sound.

IIn Portland, the highlights were an eco-tour of Mount St. Helens; a trip to the scenic Columbia River Gorge and waterfalls; and a trip to Cannon Beach, Fort Clatsop (last stop for Lewis and Clark) and the Maritime Museum and tower in Astoria.

After a short ride on the Amtrak train, we arrived in Olympia in time for a welcome lunch. In Olympia.
Some highlights were a day trip to Mt. Rainier, a tour of the Capitol of Washington where we participated in a mock trial, and a picnic and kayaking at lake at Millersylvania State Park.

A few of us also got to “row crew” on a boat on Puget Sound. We learned about the local shellfish industry, coffee brewing and fruit growing. Some of also saw some Chihuly glass made in nearby Tacoma. We had great hosts and look forward to their return visit in 2016.

Inbound Exchange from Gold Coast – September 23 – October 1

Time is short until our Ambassadors from Gold Coast Australia and Southwest Region arrive in Dallas to begin the Exchange. The Gold Coast has already arrived in the US to begin their exchange with Colonial Carolina.

You still have time to join the fun and meet our fellow Friendship Force members. We have an exciting week planned beginning with a dinner of traditional Southern dishes. We will tour Downtown Dallas, see how money is printed and visit the Stockyards in Fort Worth, learn how Stetson hats are made, wander through the Arboretum amid the pumpkins, eat fried food on a stick at the State Fair and lunch on food truck fare in Klyde Warren Park after touring the Winspear and Wyly theaters. We will give our Ambassadors a rousing send off at the Farewell Party at La Hacienda restaurant. See the flyer.

You should have received the Reservation Form (one is available here). Please sign up for the events you want to attend (please specify which burger you want on the return portion) and return the completed form and any fees by September 15, to Mary Latham.

Please contact Pat Andeweg at pja72@sbcglobal.net and let her know you want to host a dinner or attend a dinner.
